Mother with her Child

The Essence of Conscious Mothering

Many women suffer from the 'mother wound,' also known as ‘mother hunger’,  which is less about who raised them but rather the critical developmental needs of nurturance, protection, and guidance that were missing in their formative years. When a baby receives these critical qualities consistently and timeously from its mother, a baby learns healthy emotional regulation which ultimately leads to the development of a healthy attachment style characterized by a feeling of safety, trust, and confidence in relationships. One part of conscious mothering is clearing her own wounds, understanding the importance of providing nurturance, protection and guidance to her children, and the embodiment of these qualities.

The second part of conscious mothering is honoring the crucial period of postpartum. Postpartum is a Sacred Window where Mother nature offers a bountiful and precious unique gift to every single mother who births a child, known as Kayakalpa.

According to Ayurveda, the sister science of Yoga, which is also the oldest system of medicine originating from India, postpartum is a special time in a woman’s life where nature opens a narrow window, an opportunity for total rejuvenation of her physiology enabling her to transcend any degenerative conditions and attain an optimal metabolic state for physical and mental health and recovery. The first 6 weeks after giving birth, is a unique window which has the power to bring the physical and energetic bodies back into balance through a process of purification and nourishment. It is a time when a new mother is in a state of vulnerability, tenderness, and in need of mothering herself.
